80+ Hockey Hall of Fame

History of the 80+ Hockey Hall of Fame

The 80+ Hockey Hall of Fame exists to increase participation in adult recreational hockey by offering induction as a goal for players, and as a tribute for builders. MAURICE MARCHAND was at the origin of the organization, with the support of his Ottawa Elder Skatesmen teammates, to formally both recognize and encourage recreational hockey players aged 80 and over in Canada to continue playing the game they love as well as show leadership, to family and friends, by remaining active. The first ceremony was held in 2011 for the induction of five players from Ottawa into the 80+ Hockey Hall of Fame. The BUILDERS category was added to honour the volunteers who contribute to the organization and the advancement of senior recreational hockey in the community.

The 80+ Hockey Hall of Fame rapidly became a pan-Canadian organization. To Ottawa and Gatineau were added inductions in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Burlington and Huntsville, Ontario. Maurice served as president until he retired on January 31, 2023.
By the end of 2025, almost 460 will have been inducted from some 23 teams, including over 40 inductees as builders. In 2026, the K-W Daytimers from Kitchener, Ontario will host the 19 th Induction Ceremony on March 28. This will be followed by ceremonies in
Saskatoon on April 18, and Whitby, Ontario in October. By year end, the numbers will have grown by another 100 candidates.

The 80+ Hockey Hall of Fame is committed to ensure that all those eligible can be recognised at one of its future induction ceremonies (www.hockey80plus.com).
